A Study of Vase with Zinnias and Other Flowers
By Kerri Kane after Vincent van Gogh
Acrylic paints on stretched canvas.
Unable to pay for models to pose for portraits, Van Gogh threw himself into painting still lifes of flowers. Vincent took this effort seriously, studying Dutch and Flemish flower painters of the golden age, and initially adopted their habit of depicting flowers against a dark background. Vase with Zinnias and Other Flowers was painted by Vincent Van Gogh in Paris, summer of 1886.
This painting was my first time spent with any of the Masters. What a thrill! During this time, I became engrossed with and still am, with anything Vincent. I highly recommend seeing the film titled “Loving Vincent” It’s beautiful. Each of the film’s 65,000 frames is an oil painting created using the same technique as Van Gogh himself. Amazing!
